A little more about me…
What can I help you with?
First, you do not know what you need help with when you reach out to make an appointment. Sometimes, it is confusing to identify the problem, or there are so many parts of your life where you are struggling that you can’t pinpoint the main complaint. That’s OK! We can figure it out together.
On the other hand, maybe you do know what you would like help with. In that case, here is a list, not comprehensive, of what I help my clients with- anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, parenting struggles, single parenthood and many more. I am trauma informed, and have experience working with clients with ADHD and ASD.
What therapeutic approach do I use?
The foundation of my approach is person-centered. I believe the client is the expert on themselves, and change and growth occur from within.
“It is that the individual has within himself or herself vast resources for self-understanding, for altering his or her self-concept, attitudes and self-directed behavior – and that these resources can be tapped if only a definable climate of facilitative psychological attitudes can be provided” - Carl R. Rogers, Psychologist
As a therapist, I have resources and experience to supplement the client’s expertise on themselves, to work with them, and to help them understand themselves better, manage challenges, and meet personal goals. To do this, I use a combination of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure Response Prevention (ERP).
How long do I work with a client?
The length of time I work with a client depends on many factors.
How ready is the client to make changes, learn new coping skills, and address the challenges and distress that led them to start therapy?
What is the client coming to therapy for? Support for a transitional phase of life? Most likely a shorter length of time. Or is it to process complex trauma? Typically, a longer length of treatment.
My goal as a therapist is to provide the client with the resources they need to work through challenges and manage mental health disorders on their own without the need for ongoing therapy, with the understanding that returning to therapy when life gets more challenging and overwhelming is acceptable and understandable.
