Winter Activities in Massachusetts That Will Brighten Your Day

Winter can be challenging when it comes to taking care of our mental health. Especially in New England, when the days are colder and there is limited sunlight. Planning activities can help get us outside (vitamin D, fresh air, and nature!) and reduce isolation (spending time with friends or meeting new people). It also gives us something to look forward to so we don't get stuck in the same old routine of work, home, TV, and snacks.

The cold weather doesn't mean you have to stay inside!

Take a trip to Snowport in Boston. Enjoy outdoor iceless curling and the open-air market.

Visit the Franklin Park Zoo or Buttonwood Zoo.

Take a walk on the Charles River Esplanade.

Take a hike at World's End for a magnificent view of the Boston skyline.

Go to Rockport and take a photo at the iconic fishing shack, Motif No. 1.

Hike Monument Mountain. The Massachusetts’ mountain that inspired Nathaniel Hawthorne and Herman Melville.

Explore Provincetown without the crowds; bring your binoculars and look for birds.

Find local trails and explore!

Need a few indoor activities?

Visit a museum- the Museum of Fine Arts, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum, the Cape Cod Museum of Fine Arts, the Peabody Essex Museum, or the Norman Rockwell Museum.

Look into classes at local art associations and museums. Libraries often have classes ranging from arts and crafts, cooking, music, and dance.
